Excel 2007 Password Protection

An employee just left and password protected several spreadsheets which we need access too. Does anyone know how I can remove the passwords? I have tried several downloads with no success. Thanks.

This doesn't help, but has to be said: before next time, draw up a proper exit-procedure for employees who are leaving...

For the current situation, can you just ask them, or did they leave in unpleasant circumstances?

Unpleasant....to say the least. Procedures are in place but dealing with so many employees and files it's difficult to manage. Thanks.
