excel 2007 and create a macro to highlight cells (NOT)

I need to turn highlight on and off of cells to compare them.
doing Boolean Algebra with "Not"s and A'BC + BC'D ete
so a I have a lot of columns and rows of 1's and 0's.
Anyway I tried to create a macro which I would then tie to a button. when I was done with the macro there was nothing there. it made a sub routine with a comment but it did not record any steps.

any Idea how I can make a one click button to highlight
cells?
I need a button to highlight and another to un-highlight yellow. color the background yellow.

the issue is I want to highlight a column of numbers
say from A23 to A34 and then click a button and have them all turn the background to yellow
highlight a another column and do the same etc.
then highlight them and turn the back to white
I thought once upon a time the other version of Excel would do this the other problem is I have a huge monitor and would like to have a button on a floating tool bar but I understand excel 2007 has no such thing anymore.
