I have 2 users that use the same excel file stored on our server.

Periodically they will both be able to access the same file, neither being advised that the other is already accessing said file, and not giving the read only/notify message..

Anyone else experienced this..

I've tried doing a search for FAQ's but no joy..

Thanks.

With the file open, go to Tools > Share workbook > and make sure the "Allow changes by more then one user at the same time" box is unchecked (on the Editing tab.)

Thanks for the reply,

I have checked this, and that option IS un-checked..

Any other ideas?

Thanks

only time I have seen this behavious was when we were upgrading our OS and were running a shadow network. Not too hot on the details but basically, there was a delay in synchronising the data on the 2 shared drives so that if 2 users opened a spreadsheet in quick succession, exactly what you have described happened...

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.
