Excel 2003 Oddness?

I have an enduser running Excel 2003 SP3. When they have multiple spreadsheets open and are toggling between them the display doesn't completely refresh to show the chosen spreadsheet. It's like the previous spreadsheet is partially stuck on the screen.

Then there are other cases when they are working for awhile and the active spreadsheet blanks out a portion of the page before redrawing it.

From what I have seen it doesn't appear to be a resource issue. They have a 2.3 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo PC with 2 GB RAM and when I check the Task Manager it looks as if EXCEL.EXE is consuming 31 MB RAM and next to 0% CPU utilization. This is a new Windows XP SP2 Dell OptiPlex 755 straight out of the box, so I would think it wouldn't be a display driver issue.

The issues only seem to involve using Excel spreadsheets. I've googled around a tad and haven't found anything of siginificance. And the post-SP3 hotfixes don't list anything of this nature.

Any suggestions? The enduser is my CFO so I want to get something knocked out relatively soon since he signs my paycheck :)

As some additional info, the spreadsheets aren't usually any larger than 300 KB or so and they don't have extensive calculations in them. When I witness this behavior the Excel status bar doesn't display anything other than 'Ready' or 'Edit' from my recollections...
