Excel 2003 errors

Hi All am having a few problems with excel 2003 in sharepoint 07.

When staff members try to access an excel document from the sharepoint site the document keeps opening up in IE. I have tried clicking "edit in microsoft excel" but it throws back an error about software not available or needing IE 6 or above.

All the computers have the full up to date version of excel and ie 7+.

any suggestions?

If you can, try using IE6 on one machine, and see if it makes a difference. I know at least some programs have had compatibility issues with IE7. I'd say it shouldn't be the case, since that's ALL Microsoft products, but it happens.
