Hi Guys,

I have several line and column charts in a worksheet, and for all of these I have made my x axis a category and added a data table.

Now usually this means that the data table is stuck to the X_Axis, which is exactly what I want.

And that's exactly how it appears on screen. But not, however how it prints.

Is this a known blip? I've never seen it happen before.

Fee,
And that's exactly how it appears on screen. But not, however how it prints.
How is it different when it prints?

Have you tried a different printer?

I've tried two printers and on both I get the graph, then along the X-Axis I get each month printed, then I get the table table printed below that but not 'docked' to the axis.

But this isn't how it displays on the screen! The screen shows the data table properly docked to the x-axis.

It's really annoying too.....

By "not 'docked' to the axis," do you mean that the data table and chart can each be moved independently or that the x-axis category values do not align with the data table?

What kind of data on the x-axis?

X axis is months (stored as proper months) and the table shows values for actuals and budgets each month.

So. the axis (with data table) on the screen looks like this:

[tt]
___________________________________________________
Jan-10 Feb-10 Mar-10 Apr-10 etc
Act 345 567 234 254
Bud 345 467 156 456
___________________________________________________
[/tt]
but when printed looks like this:
[tt]
___________________________________________________
Jan-10 Feb-10 Mar-10 Apr-10 etc
___________________________________________________
Jan-10 Feb-10 Mar-10 Apr-10 etc
Act 345 567 234 254
Bud 345 467 156 456
___________________________________________________
[/tt]

You see?

What about selecting the X-Axis, and doing Format Axis, and choosing Patterns, and setting Tick Mark Labels as None? Does that help?

Cheers, Glenn.

Those options are all greyed out as the catagory axis with a data table means there isn't an axis..... until I print....

Look in Chart Options -- Axes, and change AUTOMATIC to CATEGORY.

That's what I have done. Which is why I expect it to print as it appears on the screen, but it doesn't.

When I toggle the Axes between Automatic & Caregory, it changes EXACTLY in the way that you describe...

Automatic:

And so it does on my screen, but not when I print the chart, and I have to produce a printed pack as well as the electronic output. I've tried three printers and it happens with all of them.

Does this anomaly occur in Print Preview as well?

Yes it does.

I've used catagory axis with data tables for ever - and I've never seen this happen before!

(Thanks Skip)

How is the Category Axes range defined in Chart > Source Data?

How are the other 2 series ranges defined as well?

Catagory axis labels defined as:
Code:
=GraphingData!$A$14:$AM$49
and two ranges defined as:[/code]
=GraphingData!$B$14:$B$49
=GraphingData!$C$14:$C$49[/code]

Which all seems as I have done before.

Just a thought - I had installed an add-in: JWalkChartTools - could that be upsetting this?

I also have j-walk charting tools.

Assign the category to the ONE COLUMN containing your dates. Would that be Column A?

Oh yeah - I overtyped by mistake. It is actually column A
Sorry, mistyping can hardly help you help me can it!

Well the guilty cannot cast stones. ;-)

We're just fishing here, so hange on.

Please FORMAT all three ranges GENERAL, Copy and Paste here, if you will.

Fee, I'm plum outta options. However, it's gonna simmer on the back burner. Sorry I couldn't find a solution.

Have you tried totally reconstructing the source data/chart in a new workbook?
