I have recently installed Office XP on multiple workstations and have run into problems with Excel. No matter how large or small the file it takes upwards of 45 seconds to close. The problem occurs only when closing the application, not when saving a file, opening a file or opening Excel initially. I have installed the Office XP Service Pack and unchecked background error checking with no improvement. We are running on P4 1800 workstations with Office XP. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jayde

Do you use Outlook? In that case turn off Journalling. In Outlook go to Tools, Options, Journalling Tab and uncheck all office apps.

We use Outlook, but Journaling is turned off. Any other ideas?

Excel by default recalculates the entire workbook before close (at least I believe it is by default). As such when you are exiting, it will recalculate before closing.

You could go to Tools, Options, Calculation and click on Manual, uncheck "recalculate before save" and click on Automatic; if you like. If the size of your workbook is small and it doesn't contain multitutde of formulas, then calculation is not the problem.

You might want to check how many TMP files and how many files names starting with ~ there are and delete all of those. That will speed up things a little.

Please post hwat you find.
