I am trying to use the datedif feature in Excel 2000 with no luck. I am trying to calculate the differents in months between two dates. I have been using the datedif and just get the formula back. I would like to do it by the cell number (eg A3) rather than just entering in a date. This is what I have tried:

DATEDIF(1996/2/1,2001/7/1,M)

AND

DATEDIF(D3,E3,M)

I have tried it with and without quotation marks. Is there something other than datedif that I am suppose to use or make it easier?

Maybe you left out the quotes on the month idicator?

=DATEDIF(A16,B16,"M")

this works in my spreadsheet, the dates in the cells are in m/d/y format
