Hi Experts,

I have a spreadsheet with data I want all to see, but 1 sheet contains financial information that I don't want certain people to see. I know the whole file can be password protected, but is there a way to protect 1 sheet within a workbook to save me writing another export report and ending up with 2 files instead of 1?

Thanks,

M

You can hide the sheet (Using Format - Sheets - Hide) and the protect the book (Using Tools - Protect - Protect book) and assign a password, that way no one can unhide your sheet.

Hi,

Unfortunately, hiding a sheet does little to hide you data. A savy Excel user can get to the hidden sheet's data in several ways. Excel is NOT a secure application. I can find data on HIDDEN and VERY HIDDEN sheets quite easily.

You would be much better off having your sensative data in separate and secure location.

Be aware that anyone with the inclination, a few minutes and access to Google will be able to unhide whatever sheet you hide.

Hiding a sheet should [!]not[/!] be relied upon for security.

It's fine if you're hiding a sheet that someone doesn't care to see which contains no sensitive information, but if this is financial information that must not be shared with the recipient, you'll have to do better than hiding the sheet.
