I am using Excel 2000. I have been sent a file which was created in excel 97. There is a sheet with button on which have macro's/drop down menu's assigned to them. I can not click these options. I can not even move the the box. Whilst I can see them, it is as though they are not there. Can anyone help.

Paul,

It maybe your security settings. Did you get prompted to "Enable Macros" when the sheet loaded?

If not, go to Tools > Macros > Security and set to "Medium".

This may solve your problem.

Unless the macros are attached to the spreadsheet, I doubt Excel can access them, since they are probably in the normal.dot file of the person who sent you the spreadsheet. Get them to send you the VBA of the macros in a text file, and then load the macros.

Does the Sheet's Tab say "Dialog1" or "Macro1"?

Hi Everyone, thanks for the replies. I have set the security level to medium and low. When the spreadsheet opens I click enable macros. Neither of these work. I have used the spreadsheet okay two other machines, one with excel 97 and the other with office 2000 small business.

I have also tried removing and reloading excel 2000.

Finally if I click disable macros I can then change the format of the boxes they have been assigned to.

Any more suggestions

Thanks

Paul

So, you:

1. 'enable macros'.

2. went to the sheet with the 'button'.

3. you clicked on the button and it drops a list.

4. you clicked an item in the list and it did nothing.

5. then you pressed the F11 key (to start VBE).

6. you then opened up each item in the projects window;

and what did you find? Did you find any code there?

If so, could you paste it here for review?

If not, jfhewitt's suggestion should be followed: ask the person to send you the code.
