We have office 2000 on all the PCs in the office. On one, we installed Office 2003 to see if it could solve a problem we had with Outlook but Outlook 2003 didn't support netfolders so we reinstalled Office 2000. Everything but Excel works fine. When starting excel, not opening any workbook at all, we get an error "Object Library invalid or contains references to object definitions that could not be found." When we close the error message window, we can use Excel with no problem but that message is annoying and may cause an issue somewhere down the line. Any ideas how we can find what is missing or not referenced?

hi
i don't really have time to wade through all the solutions but if you put the error message including quotes into google there are quite a few (over 400) hits. the 2 i looked at briefly differ so i can't point you to one specific catch all solution out there.

of the 2 i quickly looked at this one sounds promising

other than that check that any references (in vb editor) refer to office 9 rather than 11

;-)
If a man says something and there are no women there to hear him, is he still wrong? [ponder]
How do I get the best answers?

I've seen this before, but it's been a long time....

If I recall correctly, it has to do with references used by 2003 that 2000 doesn't have loaded.

I'm thinking that the user of this computer either writes or, at least, has recorded a macro when 2003 was loaded. The macro resides in their Personal.xls file. This file is opened any time you open Excel, even if you are not opening a workbook.

Open Excel. Press Alt]+[F11] to open the VBE. Go to Tools > References. Uncheck any references that have the word "MISSING" beside them.

Loomah, the link you pointed to refers to an ActiveX control using ATL which is not the situation here. I had Googled this and not found anything helpful. Also, everything references 9.0 in the VB references.

John, there is no Personal.xls file on the PC at all. I checked the references and nothing was checked that says Missing. The only things checked were VB for applications, MS Excel 9.0 Object Library, OLE Automation, and MS Office 9.0 Object Library. I even check the locations listed at the bottom and the files do exist.

Thank you both for the suggestions so far.

Jim
