I have Excel 2000 running on Windows 2000. Often, when I
click File->Open and browse the networked drives, Excel
hangs as soon as I try to open a folder on the network. It
doesn't do this with local folders. If I locate the same
networked folders and files in Windows Explorer and double-
click them to open, Excel has no problem with it.

Anyone else come across this problem - any ideas?

Is the problem just with Excel or with all the Office 2000 applications?

It is an intermittent problem with Word, Excel, and Access. I use Excel all day, every work day. I do not use Powerpoint very often, but so far the problem has not occured in Powerpoint.

Give it a try with the virus checker disabled.
Is anyone else's PC affected? Have you tried any troubleshooting yet (dont want to suggest the same things)?

Our IT department found a fix (MS Knowlegebase article: Q298417) and installed it on my system today. If all goes well, they will install it on other systems in my department experiencing the same problem. Thanks for your concern.
