Excel 2000 could not open Excel 97 file

When we try to use excel 2000 to open some old excel files which were created by excel 97, the programe halt and the system shoot us a error. But it could be opened by excel 97 smoothly. It happens to most of these files contains Chinese charcters. From the evert viewer, we get this:

I tried Google but could not find a solution, anyone here can give us a help?

You mean that in your excel 97 you made a *.xls with Chinese Language and now you cannot open it with your excel 2000?

So the problem is, that your excel 2000 does not support Chinese Language right?
 
Thanks for your answer. All our applications are English versions but it is no problem to use Chinese charactors in excel sheets.
 
What i asked you was if you made the file *.xls writing in Chinese letters

you used chinese leters or did you right it in english and now when you open it with excel 2000 it come up with chinese (meaning symbols like &%&^$^%#&^#%((&*%^%#^% )?
 
Yes, we made the file *.xls writing in Chinese letters but it could not be opened by using Excel 2000. For these files written in English is no problem.
