Exceed 8.x - passive works, query doesn't - why??

Using Hummingbird Exceed 8.0 - in a WAN environment;
users in one building cannot use 'Query' mode (ie. active X), but if they create xstart shortcuts in 'passive' mode they can use the application. Is this router/switch related?
(ex. full vs. 1/2 duplex?). Users not fully function = unhappy users.

Passive will just envoke your command line eg /bin/xterm XDMCP broadcast will do a blast on your subnet for systems running the XDM protocol. Query will hit your specific Unix system. Ensure that XDM is running on it.. root can only be the one who starts it. There are several ports to open between the two if your in a firewall situation. (who puts firewalls within a org I dunno)
