examine pixels in a jpg file?

i need to examine the pixel information in existing graphics. i have no idea how/if this can be done. so if i have a jpg can i find the color of pixel (10,100) by pointing to the jpg file or do i have to display it, then get the pixel info fron the screen?

in either case how to do it?

ideas/resources/anything greatly appreciated!

You need to learn/use the JAI API from Sun I expect :
