Exactly when should I press the '5' key on my F50 to enter Service Mode? I'm trying to change the bootlist sequence so I can boot from a mksysb tape. Also what should I see after I get to service mode and what changes should I make to accomplish the bootlist change? Please note: my machine does not have a key to switch to 'Service' position.
Thanks.

Why do you need to go into the SMS menu to change the bootlist? Why not do `bootlist -m normal cd0 rmt0 hdisk0 hdisk1` or whatever selections you want.

You should press 1 anyway, 5 makes it boot from the CDROM. Do it at the first splash screen while the words are appearing at the bottom. I don't know exactly when, I just whack it the entire time.

With later versions of microcode you can tell the service proc to boot to SMS; in the power control menu there should be option 7, forget the name, then set "boot to SMS" to true. Saves a lot of hassle. IBM Certified -- AIX 4.3 Obfuscation
