I have a pool of 5 developers that are working on this project. For the majority of the tasks any of the 5 can work on them. Whoever frees up first can take the next task. But, there are a few tasks that must be handled by specific developers. How can I enter this in MS Project to calculate our dates?

Exact Resources Unknown: Need Schedule Dates

Create your known resources (Mary, Rishma, etc.) and add 5 generic resources (I'd call them #P1, #P2, etc.).
Then assign the resources to the tasks. If you know who is going to do the work then assign that resource. If you don't know then assign a generic resource.
When you do decide who will actually be doing the work then change the resource assignment(s) for that task. There are lots of ways to do that, I won't bore you with them.
