Hello. We have an Exabyte VXA2 1x10 that is having an issue. We had a SCSI card go bad, so we replaced it. This was the connection between the tape drive and the server. On the Windows 2003 server, we are using Veritas 9.1. I have a file I need to restore off one of the tapes, but I am having trouble doing that.

When I run the Manf. Tests - I get Filaed 101 - L: H/W Inoperaple Hardware Error.

I've run the demo and other hardware tests fine. The restore job in Veritas tries to run, but is unable to do so. I am unable to inventory or do anything in Veritas on the tape.

I'm not sure if it is a hardware problem or a Veritas problem. The job will begin to run and then go back to a queued status. The Exabyte does spin the correct tape and drop it into the drive, but Veritas is unable to proceed from there.

Don't know if it is a firmware, hardware or software issue. If anyone can put me on track of what to try next, that would be great.

Thanks!

I'd try running "diag" from the CLI. That would allow you to select the specific tape drive then run a battery of I/O tests on it (have a blank tape cartridge available).
