I have a hosted dedicated machine running Windows Server 2003. Supposedly RAID 1 is installed and running but I'm struggling to find evidence of it.
Any suggestions please?

Hardware or software RAID? If software, look at your Disk Manager. If Hardware, look for the associated software management tool.

Well there's supposedly another drive but I don't see it. Should it be visible?

If it was mirrored in Disk Manager then you should see both drives...

"but I'm struggling to find evidence of it."
The Krell Mind Machine is out for repairs, therefore we are not omniscient this week... you are light years ahead of anyone in in this forum concerning your server. Please feed us SOME info. Make, model, service tag if any.

This may show what disk controller you have have...
Hit the "start" button, go to programs, accessories, system tools, system information, components, storage, drives. "System summary" should give make model and other pertinent info.

Well wherever I look I only see a C drive and E drive. The E drive is supposedly mirrored to another drive.
In device manager there is a SCSI and RAID controller 'LSI Adapter, SAS 3000 series, 4-port with 1064E-StorPort'.

I'm told the other drive is attached to the SCSI controller.

Have you looked for a program that controls the RAID? A quick Google search on my part found a page about ServerView RAID...anythign like that or anythign remotely concerning RAID in your Programs menu anywhere?

And, it would be extremely helpful if you would provide the information that's been requested...server make, model, specs, etc.

We're happy to help you...but you need to help us help you and not disregard our questions.

It's a DELL Poweredge 200 with Core 2 Dual Core Intel Xeon.

2 Gb 2.4 Ghz memory

2 x 160Gb SATA

You mean an R200? Does it have a SAS or PERC controller?

If it has 2x160GB SATA, and you have a C:\ and an E:\ drive...where exactly is this mirage of a mirrored drive located?

This isn't making any sense.

How many hard drives are physically in this machine? Open the top...is there a hardware RAID controller located in this machine?

You're sitting there physically looking at the machine asking us questions about what is physically in the box. Seems odd.

Dexeloper....

Go to this link to get your service tag.....
Below the blank box click "Find my service tag"

If you get a service tag, then reopen the link if it closes, enter it in the box, this should give you the "original configuration"

Sorry - had to pop out.

As I said at the start this is a hosted dedicated server - I don't have physical access to the machine.

We use LSI adaptors and the management app is called megaraid. Look in start > programs or C:\program files\ for megaraid. When a drive is mirrored it will appear in explorer as a single drive letter e.g E: but in the background there are physically 2 disks and the same data is written to both at the same time. You're best off googling raid 1 and reading up for a better understanding. When you know what raid is you will have a better idea of what you are looking for.

When I was born I was so suprised I didn't talk for 18 months

There's no mention of megaraid anywhere or anything else that looks like raid software. I've looked in program files. I've also googled RAID til my keyboard is flat.
I'm not as green as I'm cabbage looking - but thanks for all the suggestions.

Are you sure this isn't a virtual machine (vmware esx) A lot of the hosted solutions tend to use them.

Biglebowski, believe he has a Dell so they have there own raid management software they use for their LSI based raids, so it would be "Dell OpenManage Applications", "Array Manager" he is looking for. Provides the same info and management ability, just more fluff.

when you reboot , do you not see any prompts for raid controllers? , i thought on the dell default you could push F8 to view the raid setup.

Hmm thanks for that. As stated I don't have physical access to the machine so unable to reboot. I think we'll call it a day there.

cant reboot? , too bad , get a decent management solution in there.

good luck

If it's a hosted machine, then the onus is on your host to provide the proof of what you're paying for. If you're paying for RAID...then make them prove to you it's a RAID host.

Good luck...I'm done.
