HI All,

I would appreciate your evaluation of C++ Builder and MS Vis Studio .Net. I am in the market for an IDE, and have been considering either MSVIS Studio .Net professional or C++ Builder.

Can you offer some comments on what you think of these products? What are they good for respectively? What are their weaknesses?

Thanks,

NimrodX

Well, well, I think BCB is better thant MSVS, because the IDE is the easier to use, and you don't need to worry about how your program visually looks like, you especifically need to write the essence of the application.

In addition, the VCL or CLX is very easy to use too.
You write the name of the component followed by a -> or a . (once added to the form) and a list of properties, events and variables appears to select what you want.

I think borland has a .Net implementaion dont they.

that would probably be my choice if I required .NET

sorry due to a quick research foray I have come to the conclusion that borland builder supports .NET out of the box. I knew it was in there somewhere. just go with borland and dont look back.

Borland outperforms MSVC by leaps and bounds. I have seen people create sloppy, ugly applications with MSVC that took 10 times longer than someone using Borland who made it pleasing to the eye. The only disadvantage of Borland is if you plan on getting deep down into the operating system. Borland has simplified the IDE to the point that on some thing, such as graphic rendering and internal/external port addressing, you must use microsoft's functions. BUT Borland provides the MS Help and everything you need is in there. It just takes some getting used to.

Supernat03 points out another advantage of BCB, it supports bot its own VCL and MS's routines. BCB also supports .NET and Linux via CLX.

Since we're in a BCB forum the results are going ot be a little bit weighted. I'd say BCB too, having used both and having an equal output on each, because just like lastcyborg said, you don't have to worry about and get into the visuality as much, and you're left with more opportunity to code.
