Hello,

I am new to administering PBX's the last place I worked we had Avaya IP Office, now I have another job and there is a Merlin Magix PBX.

The problem I am having is that when someone calls our main number every extension in the office rings, not just the phones at the front.

Only about 8 phones should be ringing. I dont have the software to connect to the PBX from a computer but we have one main phone where I do some configuring.

Does anyone know how I can stop every extension from ringing from the main number?

Sounds like the system is in "Key" mode - where the default is: all lines show up as buttons on each phone - and the default is every incomming call rings on ALL phones. Most people use Hybrid/PBX mode - where only the operator phone rings.

You need to turn off line ringing on each line for the phones you do not want to ring. You can do that at each phone - or at the main switchboeard thru centralized programming.

If you do it at each phone: Press menu, choose program, touch any button with a red light on, choose list, scroll (using "more") to Ring Options, choose Ring Options, choose "all lines", enter, choose "no ring", enter. Then press exit or home to leave programming mode.

-OR- At each phone you do not want to ring, simply press INTERCOM, Speaker, Dial POUND Zero Zero (#00) and touch ANY LINE BUTTON, and dial *345.

That will turn ringing off on ALL LINES.

thank you tdaugirdas that was exactly what i needed, thank you. i have been reading the feature reference guide and i could not find that info anywhere

Merlinman, thanks for the tip ... now, can you point us to a list of such codes so we can do thing like *345 without scrolling through a bunch of menus?

If you download the User Guide for the type of phones you have - from Avaya.com - most of the codes will be listed within. The 400 series phone user guide can be found at Avaya.com as follows: under Support, click on Documentation, scroll alphabetically to Merlin Magix Integrated System, click on it, click on All documents, scroll down to User Guides. All documents are in PDF format.
