used to run win 98, ie 5 was doing fine.
then for some unknown reason i installed winME, now when i try to run ie, it connects, sends and receives about 400 kbs and then stops, but the connection is still there.

what is wrong with my machine?
What exactly happens? IE does it load a page or give you an error message? If it gives you an error message then what does it say?

Try this:

Open a command prompt, the msdos icon in the start menu and type:
ping <A HREF="
it says bad ip address then try

ping 204.137.168.66

if this starts giving you information about times and such then your internet connection is working, your dns is not. I am not familiar with winME so I don't know where you have to put your DNS settings I would suspect that they go into your dial-up networking (if you are using a modem to connect to the internet).

Good luck.....

Troy Williams B.Eng.
fenris@hotmail.com

This depends on how you connect to the internet, I'll assume dial-up. You have to go to dial-up networking in the start menu. right click on the icon that will start your internet connection and go to properties. I don't have my win98 machine around to verify the next steps but it should go something like this, What you are looking for is a button that says "tcp/ip" or something like that. It may be hidden under advanced settings (?). Once you find the tcp/ip settings there will be a windows with space to fill in information. You should see a section called DNS with a primary and secondary. You will need to get the numbers from your service provider and enter them there.
