A customer called me out to look at some fiber, that he couldnt find patch cords for. fiber that ran between buildings. The connectors were similar to a coax, in that they had a "nut" where you could screw them onto your panel with a wrench. The other notable, was that the end of the fiber was closed mechanically, and appeared to open, once you screwed it into your panel... cannot find patch cords. Would like to put newer connectors on, but there is no part #s on the fiber. Just says, siemons fiber optic. Ill try to get out there to get some pics soon.

Are you talking about a regular fc, or something different? I've never seen a connector you had to put a wrench to, but plenty of fc's (that are similar to st's, but with a threaded barrel).

The may be something FC.apc ends or something. i ran into these on some single mode fiber a long time ago. They had a slight angle to the end of them. The ones i had were on some cell phone equipment. I am not sure it was FC APC or something close to that.

Good call, Kwing. That's where i have seen most fc's; in CATV/OSP type area. If the connector boot is green, it is more than likely an angle polish connector. They try to use that fc-apc combination to limit loss (apc), and the occasional unseating of the connector, compared to st and sc types. Kind of important when you're talking telephony lifelines.
