EventID for a Trap

Is there a way to retrieve the EventID as a commandline argument when a trap is received? I'd like to be able to add or modify the Note that accompanies the Event, but my external app needs to know the EventID in the NetViewDB. Any ideas? This corresponds to the "eventID" value in the "events" table.
