I am getting eventID 6004 on all my XP machines connected to the network. They only come up when i access a mapped drive on the domain.
The error reads
"a driver packet received from the I/O subsystem was invalid. the data is the packet"
what does this mean? Is there a fix?
thanks

Oh, one more thing..........I get the error codes whenever a mapped network drive is accessed.

Did "Diancecht's" links help, it would assist us to know in case we should be looking elsewhere for a solution?

A scan of your machine by might help you decide if a better driver would solve it for you.

I looked through those links and check the mac address and they are entered correctly. Microsoft links never give the right info i need.

Im running Panda Antivirus with tru-prevent on the server and panda clientshield on the workstations.

Can you test using just one workstation to see if you can prevent the error occurring on that machine.

Thanks for those links but they did not work. I did a clean boot, checked startup programs, checked for unsigned drivers, restarted in safe mode with networking capability and still got the error.

by the way, along with 6004, i also get 3019 error. "The redirector failed to determine the connection type". I think they are connected in some way. Microsoft knowledge base saids no user action reuired for this error.

Thanks for that extra bit of information, see this thread which covers similar joint errors.

You see message 3019 in the System Event log when you map a network drive or connect to a network share by using a UNC path name in Windows XP Service Pack 2

Programs that connect to IP addresses that are in the loopback address range may not work as you expect in Windows XP Service Pack 2

thanks for those links.
i downloaded the microsoft update and it seemed to fix the 3019 error code but i still get the 6004. I did a NIC driver update to see if maybe that was the issue but still same problem.

Do you have a spare, or test machine, that you can load XP on, and only the operating system on, with no extra software? It would be interesting to see if a clean machine had that same error.

What about the Server, is it time to start looking at that as a cause of your problems? I keep coming back to the problem being caused by security software, but without evidence it is just a guess on my part.

No, i dont have a spare machine. I can try disabling the network antivirus and see if that is the cause or adding my home laptop to the domain network and see if i get the same error on the laptop.
