Hello everyone,

I'm having problems with the sqlserver and sqlagent services. Below the error message i'm getting in the application events.

I have given the accounts a different account than the local system account upon installation, but i think i need to give them more permissions on my server. So far they have ful control on the directories which are created by sql server. Those accounts doens't appear in the root partition where i installed all the data directories, etc.

Could someone help me to correct this?

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSSQLSERVER
Event Category: (2)
Event ID: 17052
Date: 28-07-2004
Time: 10:37:23
User: N/A
Computer: ASTRAIASERVER
Description:
You do not have sufficient operating system permission to open the SQLServerAgent status event.

On the server, Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services. Find MSSQLServer and SQL Server Agent Properties. Check under which account these services run. Then, make sure this account has sufficient rights on SQL Server (if it doesn't have a login on the server, create it).

Hi,

Do you mean in sql server or on the OS.
They have accounts in sql which are system administrators and on the they are member of the group users and sql services (is a group i created and has full control on c:\ and d:\, but only on rootlevel).

Is this wrong?

What OS and SQL Server version are you using?

According to the BOL, SQL Server 2000 on a WinNT 4.0 box needs the services to have an admin account.

Refer to BOL, use Index tab, enter "Service, Settings". Go to IMPORTANT. First paragraph is for clustering the second is for SQL 2000 on a Win NT 4.0 box.

hi
services run uner the Os so they must have suffiecient os accounts.

Hi bill,

I'm using sql server 2000 and windows 2000 server.

Re-reading the information at the BOL link I gave you, the very first paragraph states:

'Either the local system or domain user account is used..."

That seems to indicate that if you aren't using a domain account for the services, they MUST be the local system account.
