Running W2K Server with terminal server installed. I am getting the event id 1015 error message below about every few minutes. I uninstalled SNMP to see if this would stop the message. I have also installed a network monitoring tool called Whats Up Gold on another workstation, It just seems odd that these event errors started coming at that time. I guess what I am going to do is disable the service from Whats Up Gold to not monitor the SNMP service and see what happens. But has anyone ever seen this annoying event error?

The timeout waiting for the performance data collection function "PerfProc" in the "C:\WINNT\system32\perfproc.dll" Library to finish has expired. There may be a problem with this extensible counter or the service it is collecting data from or the system may have been very busy when this call was attempted.

I think I found the culpert! Its a program I installed on the server, Its from its a network auditing tool that takes inventory of each computer and sends a file to the site.

Hi there,

I noticed that article as well from eventid.net and went to it, Its pretty generic defining each event code. Here is what it said for event id 1015. It does tell you to see how to collect registry timeout values, but when you go to that part, it does not tell you where in the registry to go to do this. I am a network admin but not a registry expert by any means, nor do I feel comfortable hacking the registry without knowing where to do it.

Event ID: 1015 Only available on Windows 2000
Detail Text: The timeout waiting for the performance data collection function (function name) to finish has expired. There may be a problem with that extensible counter or the service from which it is collecting data.

Expertise: Developer of named extensible counter DLL

Interpretation:See comments about the Collect Timeout registry value
