I am getting a system error log full of messages generated by Netlogon, ID 5774, Registration of DNS record failed , (load of Active Directory Ldap info).
The setup is a single physical network but with 2 domains , one NT, one W2000. Active Directory clients are W95 / 98 NOT 2000. The DHCP is hosted on the NT server and there is no interaction between the domains. DNS appears to be set up correctly on the 2000 box and has populated itself with all the appropriate AD sections. There are several technet articles relating to this including Q246804 and Q259277 but both refer to the DNS configuration and dynamic DNS registration which should only affect W2000 clients. DNS is set up correctly with the local DNS first in the list for both the W2000 server and in the DHCP scope options. The local DNS forwards on to a remote DNS and resolution works perfectly.
This error does not appear to have any detrimental effect other than to fill up the system log but is very annoying and not consistent accross identically configured servers.
Anyone else come accross this problem?
Are you just ignoring it or have you got a fix?
Any suggestions appreciated
