we are seeing this on one of our app servers, windows 2008r2 , office 2007. Any ideas??

A google search of event 5048 leads to an IIS config error. The underlying error message
The application '/crystalreportviewers12' belonging to site '1' has an invalid AppPoolId 'Classic .NET AppPool' set. Therefore, the application will be ignored.

Indicates that there is an issue with the crystal reports server you have integrated into the website. Have you checked with Crystal Reports support on this?
