I get this message any time Backup Exec tries to run jobs.

What steps can I take to correct it?

Can you post the text of the message please, and the version of BE you are using? I'm just guessing they are controller errors? What kind of controller do you use? Also when did this start?

It could be bad tapes, a problem with the controller card, problem with the drive...

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

EventID - 11
Source - Sonysdx-VRTS
Type - error
Category - none

The description for Event ID ( 11 ) in Source ( sonysdx-VRTS )
could not be found. It contains the following insertion string(s):
\Device\Tape0.

Version of BE - 8.50. You know, I don't know what controller it is using! My company inherited support for one of our subsidiaries and the notes gathered were less than stellar.

You should know that this is a PL1600 - WINNT 4.0. It has a SA221 controller but my understanding is that the SA's will not work with tape drives...

Can you run it in NTBACKUP?

No - I then get an event id 7. The description can't be found but it does say Device\Tape0.

Doesn't ID 7 mean its a hardware problem?

Possibly, although I would purchase a brand new tape, and try that first. If you still have problems, you might try reinstalling your controller card drivers. Beyond that, you can open the case and inspect the physical connection (for loose cable, improper termination, reseat the card, etc...), and contact Sony for support on the drive itself. Good luck.

The error I get in Backup Exec is an internal target error ( I found the error because I looked up the bytes in the error, then went to Veritas' support site and found a table of these codes).

When I use NT Backup I get a different error:

First is - "The tape drive reported an error on a request to get device status". The error code is the same.

Sounds like the drive is bad or the controller is bad/incompatible. My last post still applies.

Yeah. I am going to have to open it up and find out what controller is being used. Its not too easy trying to find it under NT.

A new tape did not solve the problem - now getting ID 11 errors but the SCSI codes still show Internal Target Failure.

Is this a bad drive? Controller? Or maybe out of date drivers?
