Hi there,

I have a production server which can't be rebooted. This server is in the domain1.domain.com domain and users logging onto this server from the same domain have no problem. If users from domain2.domain.com logon, the above event (1054) is generated in the app log. On enabling userenv logging the error DSGetDCName failed with 59 is appearing which likely points at a dns problem. This isn't the case; I've checked it all. The NIC drivers etc. are all current and the settings look OK. I can't really do a domain re-join as is suggested and can't reboot. It doesn't seem to be causing any real issues except annoying the server owner. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers in advance,
Molenski

Have you tried DCDIAG and NETDIAG to check for errors. As an aside I have seen 1054 errors pop-up when a group policy has not been applied correctly (due to network issues for instance).

Hi! Yep, I've tried both and both were successful! I considered the possibility that there is a network problem also...users are logging on from Asia...
