Hello,

Buddy of mine is getting the following error shown in Event Viewer.

description says event id (1000) in source(microsoft internet explorer cannot be found

the following info is part of the event iexplorer.exe 6.0.2800.1106,shdocvw.dll,6.0.2800.1584,00006e3c

He tried registering the shdocvw.dll, which registered ok, but same error.

The only different thing he did was updated AOL, he then uninstalled and reinstalled aol,

Eventid.net does not show anything for that particuliar DLL. Any suggestions or just uninstall/reinstall IE?

I just found out he didn't get any critical updates for awhile.

Applying those to see if it helps.

Does the error message say this?

Source: Microsoft Internet
Category: None
Event ID: 1000

The description for Event ID (1000) in Source ( Microsoft Internet Explorer ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: iexplore.exe,6.0.2800.1106, shdocvw.dll,6.0.2800.1584,00006e3c

If that is the error:

First: Start, Run, sfc /Scannow

Second, follow the steps in faq608-4650

Sorry for the delay (He lives in Wales, different time zones)

He ran the SFC - asked for the w2k disk - but didn't replace anything.

Ran adaware, spybot - spybot picked up 3, Adaware nothing, cwshredder nothing, He sent me a copy of the hijack this - and I couldnt find anything.

That is the error message he gets, but it is only when he closes the browser window - no other time at all.

he gave me a little more info.

I guess he updated AOL, it didn't take, so he installed from the CD.

Thats when the errors started occuring
since then he's totally removed AOL, both installs.
same error

Removed temp files, virus scan, and the spyware checks I mentioned above.

Tried to reinstall IE6 SP1,he clicked reinstall, but no change.
