Hi, All.

This started to happen last night.

I have two application opened, Eudora and a CATI software, that are both idle. I opened Windows Explorer and tried to open a file with 'open with', Windows Explorer crashed.
It asked me if I want to send an error report to Microsoft.
After this happening for an hour, I gave up.

Looking through Event Log, I found many entries of two errors within that hour.

event id: 1000
source: application error
faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.1106, fault address 0x00013887

event id: 1002
source: winlogon
the shell stopped unexpectedly and explorer.exe was restarted.

Any idea?

Thanks.

Try do a reload of your latest SP. Are you on Service Pack 2?

If anyone calls and says "I know a little something about computers" just tell them to reformat it.

bcastner,

explorer and iexplorer are two different thing. so what does a explorer.exe error has anything to do with internet explorer?

thanks.

the computer is installed with all the lastest updates including that ie one. the ie one was installed 2 days ago. can it caused the problem?

thanks.

Not cause a problem, it was a possible repair.
I would wait for Service Pack 2.

While waiting, do a thorough clean of your system by following faq68-4650

And the Event ID 1000 for explorer.exe is tied to changes in IE. Strange though it may seem.

I give this repair suggestion with a 40% chance of working, but it cannot hurt:
pen a new notepad session, to be called IE_fix.cmd, and copy/paste the below:

regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Msjava.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Browseui.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll

Save the file, then double click IE_fix.cmd and answer the prompts. Ignore any error messages.

Reboot and test again.

gpalmer711,

Good catch. Have you noticed a lot of Colf Fusion errors recently?

I used to not worry about the application, but this is possibly the second time it has been an issue for a user in a month.

Odd.

Incidently I installed it on my pc to test it for a friend and had problems with it. I didn't bother looking into it further though.

More information from the user....

She said the crash happens when she either right click to open/delete/copy/move ANY files.

Thanks.

After giving her administrative right, the problem is gone! But I don't want to start giving eveyrone administrative right.

I'm having virtually the same problem. I created a new user profiler but the same error(s) occur under the other profile as well.

Same problem I'm having in Windows Explorer under XP Pro. I already tried the following:

But..this doesn't work either. This problem just started doing this the other day. Haven't found anything that works yet.

Any ideas?

Also, I have run sfc /scannow and this didn't do anthing either.

Thanks bcastner but no luck. Unless I missed something. I looked over several and most refer to older Windows OS's.

Any other ideas?

See if you have WebRoot SpySweeper installed. Using ShellExView (linked in my note above) it appears as:

Extension: Webroot Spy Sweeper Context Menu Integration
Type: Context Menu
Description: Spy Sweeper Context Menu
Version: 3.0.0.113
Filename: C:\PROGRA~1\Webroot\SPYSWE~1\SSCtxMnu.dll
CLSID: {7C9D5882-CB4A-4090-96C8-430BFE8B795B}

Disable it and test.

I found the answer. I was SpySweeper. I deleted a registry entry having to do with the app and everything has been fine since.
