I have downloaded the evaluation version of SQL Serer to instal on my home PC.

I have uninstalled all previous SQL Server components but when I try to instal the evaluation I keep getting the error message:

"A previous programme installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. You must restart the computer before running setup again"

I have restarted and checked again that there are no SQL Server programmes to unintal (through add remove programmes - and there arent) but even when restarted I still get the same message.

Please help - This one is driving me bonkers.

But the information is still somewhere in the registry so it knows you already had SQL Server loaded. Did you already have the eval edition loaded and it expired on you?

If so, the only way to reload it is to find the entries in the registry and remove them. And that is NOT something I would mess with.

Why are you trying to install an evaluation copy?

Thanks for the input - I have a valid version from work but that wouldnt instal either - gave the same message and the one from work I have a valid key for but it wont let me get to the stage of entering it.

All I want is to put SQL S on my home machine so I can develop from home - any advice as to what I will have to remove would be much appreciated - this is causing me a lot of travel - If I can istal it at home I can save myself 80 miles a day in travel time and annoyance travelling to work.

Cheers

What version of SQL Server (valid version) and what's your OS version? Maybe they aren't compatible.

I have CDs with SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition and Standard Edition and I am putting them on a Windows XP Pro machine - If this is the problem where can I get a copy of the developer edition - which I believe is compatible with XP Pro.

Thanks Bill for your time - any help much appreciated.

Glad you got it worked out....Personal Edition should have worked on XP Pro.
