When I reboot our SQL server yesterday, the MSSQL service would not restart. From the event log I determined that an evaluation copy of SQL 2000 had been installed on the server and has expired.
I tried using a retail copy of SQL 2000 to upgrade the server and thus enable me to restart the services. The installation allows me to select the upgrade option but does not allow me to deselect Default. If I proceed to the password window, the installation hangs at "Verifying Password. Please Wait." Has anyone else encounterd this problem or is there an alternative solution that will allow restart the server.
