Evaluating ETL Vendors

What are people's impressions with using the various ETL vendors "platforms"? We're new to this, so are their any gotchas we need to know when looking at Informatica, Ascential, etc? We're more or less going from the top left of the Gartner quadrant, but if anyone has any experiences, please let me know.

I just discovered this informatica forum (after spending a lot of time on other forums) so your thread is a bit old. If you are still interested in - in this case - my experience with Informatica's Powermart, please send me a mail with - if you please - the area's you are interested in. I'll try to give you an honest assesment about the product (2 years of experience on a daily basis)
