Euro symbol

I put a euro-sign in a excel spreadsheet cell using alt/ctl/4. (Excel 2000). This works fine in a new spreadsheet - but if I try this in an older existing sheet (opened in Exel 2000) alt/ctl/4 gives a: | line

I'd first try holding Alt then typing 0128 on the numeric keypad with numlock on (won't work using the numbers above the letters).

If that doesn't work then you may need the "euro upgrade". Search the Excel online help for "entering euro symbol" for more information.
