Eudora interupts text entry when checking for mail 3

When typing a message I keep getting an annoying beep and losing my cursor everytime Eudora checks for mail. Why can't it check for new mail in the background? is there some setting I can change???

Make sure you have "select newly inserted messages (FUMLUB)" unchecked in the Mailbox section

Can't tell you how much this tip will reduce stress. Seems like I'm most likely to get a flurry of incoming just when I'm trying to send a time sensitive memo.
