Hello:
Long-time Gmail and Eudora (7.1.0.9 Sponsored mode) user.
I have three personalities in Eudora, all with gmail addresses..
Was in Europe for four days, and it all worked fine over there, as it has here for years.
Came home (Canada) and it began normally - "Checking <personality name> "Connecting to the mail server" for each of the personalities.
But the Status field stayed blank (did NOT go to the little lock...) then it sent an error message:
"Could not connect to "pop.gmail.com". Cause: Connection timed out (10060)."
I hadn't changed any settings anywhere, so I was stumped.
I tried NOT checking email for various of the personalities. No change.
For a while yesterday, I could not even access gmail via the web. I assumed this was a gmail problem, but when I went to their forum there was no hue and cry, so it presumably wasn't a wide-spread issue - just me!
I now can at least access gmail through web mail, but why would it refuse to connect to Eudora all of a sudden?
One gmail forum member suggested I just switch to gmail off-line, but I like the way Eudora organizes my messages.
Now, Eudora WILL connect to gmail, and there are obviously a boatload of messages on the gmail server that it could not download before.
NOW when I Check Mail, Eudora SAYS it has 439 or whatever messages to download, the progress bar suggests it is in fact doing that, Eudora identifies the mailboxes into which messages are supposed to be filtered and displays them along the bottom of the main window as it should, the various attachments are scanned - but nothing arrives in the mailboxes!
I go to gmail's web mail and the messages are in fact there. But they aren't getting into Eudora - it just seems to be going through the motions!
This is for my dominant personality. The other two Eudora personalities have far less traffic, and they seem to be functioning OK.
I went into gmail, changed my preferences to enable POP ONLY for new messages, I did Check Mail in Eudora again, but there WERE no new messages and it did not go through the above motions. Which sort-of makes sense. But there ARE still messages on the gmail server that are NOT in my Eudora - which Eudora seems to recognize, but it STILL does not go and get them!
Anyone out there have any clues?
Thanks in advance!
Jim
