I am trying to install Windows 2000 Server, however I can only start it in safe mode. I have looked in Device Manager and there appears to be a problem with the Ethernet Controller. What is the Ethernet Controller and where could I find the driver from please?
I have got a CD with the drivers for the motherboard, but the driver doesn't appear to be on there. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The Ethernet Controller is your network card. It may be onboard ( built into the motherboard ) or it may be a separate card installed into one of the PCI slots.

Try uninstalling it from device manager and then reboot the system. Windows should find it on boot up and reinstall the proper drivers. You may also have to go to the manufacturer's web site and download the current drivers for Win2K.

If you have trouble identifying the make and model number, you can get a great tool called Worldwide Sysinfo Tool here
