Ethernet connection through MAT

I have a MAT system and connect to two Meridian 1 switches via Ethernet. One is in my building and one in another city. I guess broadcast messages are being sent via IP to the switch and this is undesirable. Is there a way I can go in and turn off the broadcast feature? Thanks.

First, sorry to hear you still have MAT. Save your self the trouble and dump the MAT intothe S.F. Bay and get something else. Nobody supports MAT.

Wow George, I'm sure that's not response you were looking for.

We took care of the broadcast issue by creating a VLAN in which only our PBX/MAT/Symposium/Call Pilot were on. We then segmented ports for each individual LAN (i.e ports 1&2 were VLAN 1, ports 3&4 were VLAN 2 etc.)I'm not sure how to setup the VLAN but I know this is a practice that Nortel recommends specifically for broadcast storms. BTW both our vendors still support MAT (Verizon and Nextirra). They do however recommend an upgrade to OTM.

I hope this helps.........

Just a cheap unmanaged 4-port Netgear switch did the job for us. No need to worry about setting up VLANs, although that would a more advanced solution and would help reduce traffic even more. We also use NextiraOne as our vendor, and yes they do still support MAT.

There are several misconceptions about MAT and OTM originating from service providers forcing OTM migrations whether needed or not. Tier 1 distributors like Verizon and Nextira often back-door/subcontract support to the likes of these vendors whom press the issue. It is good to see that they are (Verizon/Nextira) taking care of their customers though.

We (my employers - a MAT/OTM service company, run into these statements about discontinued support, capacity issues, etc. all the time.

Note however that Nortel has stopped product enhancements for MAT and they themselves will not sell or support the portfolio.
