My Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet card undocks itself (it says I can safely remove it from the computer) when I disconnect the ethernet cable from the computer. My wireless card works fine still but I am forced to restart my computer every time I want to use my faster wired connection. I looked through the device manager for the device but I did not see any settings that would apply.

Try electonically disconnecting the cable before you remove it. Right-click on the icon in the toolbar, then click on 'disable' - see if that solves the problem. Or you could upgrade your Wireless setup to 802.11(n) and have gigabit wireless.

Networking vendors promise data rates of 600 Mbps, but in actual practice, users see much lower rates. At its core, 802.11n is a high-throughput amendment. Maximum data rates increase from the 54 Mbps achieved by legacy 802.11ag WLANs to 600 Mbps in a full-bore 802.11n WLAN. But 802.11n data rates depend upon AP configuration; reaching 600 Mbps requires 4x4. N is not gigabit over wireless.
