I am relatively new to linux, having spent less than a few months with it about a year ago and not worked seriously on a Unix box in several years.
I am attempting to install ethereal on my RH 8 system. RH * comes with tethereal but I was attempting a full install for the graphical user interface. On attempting to install the base package I get failed dependancies on ucd-snmp (supposedly optional) and libsnmp.so.0
I downloaded and installed net-snmp 5.0.6: failed dependancy on ethereral again
I downloaded and installed ucd-snmp 4.2.6: failed dependancy on ethereal again
Attempted to reinstall libpcap on a what-the-heck type of thing (libpcap 0.6.2-7) but apparently RH8 has a newer version already installed.
I'm logged in as root...can anyone see what I am missing?
