We have Sun Solaris 8 server and /etc/default directory is empty. This is a new install. I have no clue who installed the OS, but I'm almost positive that this directory should not be empty. I logged in as root and tried to view this directory and the contents is empty. Can someone please help me?

P.S.
Please excuse my lingo. I'm a Windows Admin, learning Unix.

Cheers,

You are right, it should not be empty. I guess the sysadmin needed space on the drive. It contains default values for things you did not give a value for (blocksize for tar, etc). Too bad I.T. is not cash business

Aha!!! I'm going to kill this new guy we hired. When he was hired, he claimed to be a Sun Admin. Nothing worse than an IT bullshit artist. I might need to install the OS myself.

Thanx Luc,

Hello Hemant,

I'm not sure what you are talking about, but I'll give a shot at it. All default configuration can be found in /etc/default. As to user accounts, you can find them in there as well.

Cheers,
