I've got esxi running on an ML350 G3 but when I open edit settings for a virtual machine there is no option for soundcard. The server has a built in soundcard is there any way of adding this or emulating a soundcard in esxi

When I was born I was so suprised I didn't talk for 18 months

Any particular reason that you are trying to setup a sound card? Were you going to plug speakers into the sound card and listen to the start up noises of all the virtual machines?

The VMware host OS doesn't make any sounds through the sound card.

None of my virtual machines have sound card drivers loaded, and I would imagine that there are no drivers provided by the VMware tools either.

I am using the VM to test a call recorder, the call simulator requires a cisco softphone to be installed and I can't install cisco ip communicator without a soundcard. It doesn't have to work just be present for the install to see one.

Either that or I want to install a text to speech converter and play back your reply but fear I may need a hospital after my sides have split from the sheer hilarity of your sarcasm.

If the ESX installation doesn't include the linux drivers for your audio hardware, I don't think you get the option of adding sound to your client vm's.

I'm running ESX 3.5 update 2 on DL380 G5's and none of the ESX installations include audio as an option for client vm's.

You either have to find the linux driver for the hardware, or try your testing using VMware Workstation.

Sorry I can't be more help
