Hi, I wonder if you can help me all with a problem

We have a Dell R510 on a clients site running Dell's version of ESXi 5

The server is configured with the local IP address of 192.168.0.10

The server is sat behind a netscreen ssg5 firewall
I have a mapped IP at the netscreen which points to the 192.168.0.10 address

When I try and use the vsphere client and connect to the ESXi server using the MIP it fails
I've switched logging on the policy which allows all traffic down the MIP and I can see the esx box is replying with close_session requests.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks in advance

Are you mapping an external IP address? You shouldn't need a MIP within the LAN. Can you bring up the web interface using the IP address?

The answer is always "PEBKAC!

what message are you getting on the client when it fails?

Biglebowskis Razor - with all things being equal if you still can't find the answer have a shave and go down the pub.

Hi, Apologies for the delay in responding

I can connect fine when onsite using the VSphere client and the address 192.168.0.10

However when connecting externally (Using the MIP) I get the following error

Call "ServiceInstance.RetrieveContent" for object "ServiceInstance" on Server "172.28.129.69" failed.

The below shows in the logs on the policy on the SSG5

2012-07-10 12:23:56 172.31.198.6:53226 172.28.129.69:443 192.168.0.5:1227 192.168.0.10:443 HTTPS 2 sec. 781 1465 Close - TCP FIN
2012-07-10 12:23:54 172.31.198.6:53052 172.28.129.69:443 192.168.0.5:2303 192.168.0.10:443 HTTPS 96 sec. 1104 2093 Close - TCP FIN

The policy is set to allow all.

Thanks,
