I have been trying to install licences into ESX Server 3.5 using Host Licence File method.

ESX accepts the licence file, but then will not enter licenced mode.Trying to change from unlicenced returns the following error msg: "There are not enough licences installed to perform the operation"

The licence file is 2x ESX 3.5 Foundation 2cpu licences to support a 4 cpu platform.

I have regenerated the licence file from VMware numerous times with no success

Does anyone have any advice they could give me regarding this issue?

I had the same problem and got some support from VMware licensing support.

Main thing is that I dont think it was uploading my license file properly and manually dropping it into the directory worked.

- License server tools
- click on “Config Services” tab and browse to the location of the license file/directory set up.
- Once the license file is uploaded, click on the “Start/Stop/Reread” tab which is two tabs behind the “config services” tab
- Click on Stop (Stop the License server service, wait for 15 seconds)
- Click on Start (Start the license server service)
- Click on Reread License file.

PM me your email address and I can forward full procedures to you.
