ESX 3.5: Observed IP Ranges

I plugged my gigabit switch directly into my FIOS router. I have the ESX Host plugged into the gigabit switch. The DHCP is on the FIOS router. The DHCP IP range is set to 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 . The vmnic0/vSwitch0/Observed IP Range is showing: 169.254.1.64 - 169.254.1.127 . There has to be a way to change the Observed IP Range or have ESX host recognize the DHCP on the FIOS Router.

Have you assigned your ESX server a static IP Address? That address range is the default range if a device cannot get an address. If you assign ESX a static address, your hosts can still get a DHCP address.

this is just an FYI to help you identify where the physical network card is when you have multiple nics in an esx host. It just observered the network traffic connected to that interface. Like TheLad said, assign your esx server a static IP. There are various other function that will not work with out a static ip and a Static DNS Host entry(such as HA).
