This may not be the best site for this but its the closes I can find. I keep all a lot of the software I always use such as Acrobat, WinZip, etc. on a single CD so its easy to install on a reformat. However one of them - Nero Burning ROM - hogs most of the space forcing me to sacrifice other essential s/w. I am sure it doesn't need 300 - 400 MB just to burn CD's which what I need. A lot of experimentation with selecting files, has always resulted in a botched installation. Does any one know the minimum files required for just the CD burning function? Alternatively, does anyone know of a download site where a compact version may be downloaded? I am using 5.5 but don't mind regressing to an older version for the sake of space as long as I get all the CD burning functions>

Are you sure you're not cacheing your CD files to a subfolder of that, or are storing created files in there, because my Nero 5.5 with CoverDesigner and toolkit on one PC takes 33.6Mb, and Nero 5.5 express on another machine takes 50Mb.

Hi, HappyABC,

Nero requires under 40Mb of disk space for its own files - and a cache of up 700Mb for the files/image to be copied to the CD disk.

The temporary files are not a problem. My copy of Nero came with the Samsung CD/DVD combo. The installation program insists on many files ( probably for promotion purposes or maybe just because it was easier to develop it that way ). If I pick and weed files, the installation propgram, invariably fails. And neither can I do without the installation program since I don't know the needed files and where they have to be placed, registry settings etc.

If you go out to Nero's website you can download the current version, this is the same as the release version. If you give it a valid serial number it will install as a licenced version, if not it will install as a 30 day trial. If you download just the main Nero program the file is in the 30-50 meg range in size.
