escape sequences: how do i change cursor position?

I've just started using visual c++ but used zortech c a few years ago, and my code for changing cursor position by using co-ordinates does not work with microsoft, please help.
I'd like to be able to write a function that just allows me to assign 2 integers and use them to locate the cursor at that position on the screen
